Thalassery, formerly Tellicherry is a commercial city and municipality on the Malabar Coast in Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India, bordered by the districts of Mahe and Kozhikode. Thalassery was a trade hub where Chinese, Arab, and Jewish traders had considerable influence in the spice market; before that the Greeks and Romans were in the trade. Thalassery is at times referred to as the city of cricket (where Indians first played cricket), cakes and circuses. Thalassery is considered to be the birth place of the Indian circus. Keeleri Kunjikannan, born in the city, is known as "the father of Kerala Circus". Circus artists and coaches from Thalassery are very much in demand. India's premier Circus Academy was inaugurated in Thalassery. Thazhe Angadi Heritage Street at Thalassery tells the story of an era of trade and colonialism. Situated close to the harbour, this street has a long history of trading coffee, pepper, cashew and other spices through “Uru” or Fat Boats. The Thalassery pier, locally called Kadalpalam in Thalassery, is an old pier reaching out to the Arabian Sea. The shallow water and large rocks often led to shipwrecks and hence in 1910 CE, the British East India Company built the pier for easy transportation of goods. #thalassery #kannur #kerala #thalasserykadalpalam #beautyofthalassery #thalasserypier #thalasseryheritagestreet #thalasseryhabour #godsowncountry #travelogues #travelvlog #travel
