One of the most beautiful and carefree days of my life: On this day in October of 2018, as I crossed through my favorite part of rural America it seemed that I’d travelled back to a time period when things were still alright in our country. The scenery I saw that day wasn't spectacular by the standards of scenery out west or in Mexico, but that hardly mattered. I felt truly at home on this route south to Shreveport even though I’d never before set foot in these hills. To me these small towns in the foothills of the Ozarks held a beauty all their own and for one of the few times in my life I was completely content with my surroundings. If Hobo Heaven exists then I'd bet my bedroll that its carrier is the Kansas City Southern.
