Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways In this video we feature Day 1 of The North Yorkshire Moors Railway's Annual Autumn Steam Gala with this line up of guest locos to some turned out to be in their opinions the gala of the century especially with the selected locos coming made this steam gala a chance not to be missed. So the guest locomotives that came to the gala were. NELPG's ex BR Built Peppercorn K1 62005 which was making a welcome return to the NYMR for the 1st time since the spring of 2016. Great Central Railway based ex BR Built Modified hall 6990 Whitherslack Hall. Didcot Railway Centre's based ex GWR King class 6023 King Edward II & in doing so for the 1st time ever a Great Western King has visited the NYMR as this was 9 years in the making as back in 2010 for the NYMR Spring Steam Gala the NYMR were hoping to have Jeremy Hosking's 6024 King Edward I but sadly was not available. The final guest engine to complete the line was John Cameron's A4 pacific 60009 Union of South Africa which making a return & probably the very last time before the A4's permanent retirement in the summer of 2020 & this was 6 months in the making as number 9 was supposed to be the star guest for the NYMR season opener in March but was sadly not available but now the A4 finally made it. We start by seeing number 9 awaiting the arrival of the 1st train of the day from Pickering. Upon arrival number 9 was joined by 62005 to form the 1st double header of the day up the 1 in 49 grade from Grosmont to Goathland. We join the train for the trip to Goathland. Our next trip up the grade was the 2nd double header of the day was the Great Western Railway duo of 6990 Whitherslack Hall & 6023 King Edward II. The performance of the 2 was tremendous hauling 7 maroon coaches in tow or though the crew of 6023 were telling me with the weight of the train being rammed packed it felt there was 9 coaches behind the the 2. They achieved the run from Grosmont to Goathland in 10 & a half minutes an impressive run & probably the best ever on board double header filming I've ever done. We carry on filming the double header to the summit at Moorgates before finishing off on board filming as the weather was starting to get worse. I head to the car park to see the NELPG duo in ex North Eastern Railway T2 2238 & ex LNER J27 65894 arriving from Grosmont with the Gresley teak set. We next see some traction engines on display at Pickering as I waited for my train back to Grosmont. During the trip back we see 6023 at Levisham which the loco was completed with The Red Dragon one of the best known trains on the welsh marches route of the western region. At Goathland we the arrival & departure of 60009 Union of South Africa with the Gresley teaks & to round it off brilliantly the A4 was completed with The Elizabethan Express. 1 of the best known trains on the East Coast Mainline in BR days just like The Flying Scotsman train that ran non-stop from Kings Cross to Edinburgh in 6 & a half hours. We end this video at the lineside near esk valley cottages for 2 shots. 1st we see 6990 Whitherslack Hall getting into her stride as she heads for Pickering before finishing with B1 1264 hauling the last train of the day to Pickering. Thanks for reading enjoy the video. #NorthYorkshireMoorsRailway #AutumnSteamGala
