Catholic Morning Prayer – February 10, 2026 Memorial of Saint Scholastica, Virgin Welcome to the Catholic Morning Prayer for February 10, 2026. Today the Church honors Saint Scholastica, a woman of deep prayer and holy friendship, whose life reminds us that true communion with God is nurtured through humility, love, and trust. In the First Reading (1 Kings 8:22–23, 27–30), King Solomon stands before the altar and humbly acknowledges that no earthly structure can contain the greatness of God. Yet, he confidently asks the Lord to listen attentively to the prayers offered in that sacred place. This prayer reveals a profound truth: God is transcendent and infinite, yet He draws near to those who seek Him with sincere hearts. In the Gospel (Mark 7:1–13), Jesus warns against a faith that is reduced to external observance. He challenges the Pharisees for honoring God with words while allowing their hearts to remain distant. Human traditions, when separated from love and obedience, lose their meaning before God. Together, these readings call us to examine the integrity of our worship. Authentic devotion flows from a heart aligned with God’s will, not merely from habit or routine. The life of Saint Scholastica beautifully embodies this truth. Known for her deep prayer and her holy bond with Saint Benedict, she trusted not in rigid forms, but in love that moves the heart of God. As Saint Gregory the Great observed, she prevailed in prayer because she loved more.
