Tired of getting dripped on during the morning chores? We finally finished the covered walkway project on our 10-acre Oklahoma homestead! With a 71% chance of rain in the forecast, I had to race the clock to get the roof supports up and the metal roofing installed. In this video, I walk you through the reality of off-grid building—including the moments where I had "no clue" how to transition the roof pitch and the nerve-wracking process of poking holes in a perfectly good roof. In this episode: The "Rain Race": Trying to beat the Tuesday storm. DIY Engineering: How I used brackets and flashing sealant to create a water-tight seal between two different buildings. The "Hawk Break": Nature interrupted the build! Watch how the chickens reacted to a predator overhead. The Final Reveal: No more melting frost or rain on the porch. Building off-grid means constantly refining and improving our space. It’s not always perfect, and I’m always changing my mind as I go, but that’s part of the journey! Are you working on any weatherproofing projects?
