Giovanni Battista Bassani, composer, violinist and organist, was a native of Padua who studied music in Venice and Ferrara, worked in Bologna and then returned to Ferrara in 1683 (the same year his Opus 5 was published). The Opus 5 sonatas were dedicated to the mathematician, violinist, composer and patron of music Count Alessandro Sanvitale. The score is written for 2 violins, cello (or bass viola da gamba) and organ. The listener might hear some similarities to Corelli, especially in the short, imitative echoes between the 3 string instruments. This soundtrack was created using MusicStudio2 to mimick the sounds of 2 violins, violincello. chamber organ and archlute. ++++++++++ 1. Concert, Donato Creti, 1697 2.
