Weaving is one of the socio-economic activities that both men and women in Ghana engage in. In Ghana, there are two different types of woven fabrics, The Ashanti kente and the Northern Smock Fabric. Weaving of smock fabric is common in the Northern Ghana, hence the nickname Northern Kente, it has other names such as BATAKARI, FUGU, SMOCK and so on. In this video, we go through the process of weaving the Smock fabric in Upper West Region of Ghana. This is just one part of the weaving carried out mostly by women, there is also another that is mostly done by men. We will look at that later in another video, but for now enjoy this video.
