A month or so ago, I tried to identify Bayonet Peak from .656 on the Southern Crossing. Actually, quite liked .656 as a candidate for Bayonet Peak. This time I had a look at .805, my original best guess for the peak. There was no evidence of a trig, but if it had been there, it would likely be covered in moss, deep leaf litter and rotten, fallen trees. If forced to choose the most likely candidate, it would be .805. It has panoramic views over the Tararua Range, including the crucial Omega Peak. It is now bushed in, but suspect it was not always so. There is plenty of evidence that the ridge it was on had been cleared at some stage.
