Antibodies effective against Omicron? - Serum Virus Neutralization assay

The Serum Virus Neutralisation Assay can be used to determine whether antibody immunity can protect against the infection of a specific agent (e.g. Coronavirus). The method also helps to find out which concentrations of antibodies are sufficient to neutralise the virus. More and more variants of the corona virus (SARS-CoV2) were characterised, among them Omicron. New variants with new mutations often bear the risk that antibodies that have been obtained after an infection with the original virus or that were produced after the vaccination are not effective anymore. The assay helps to determine whether antibodies can still neutralize new variants (e.g. Omicron). A recent study of Ciesek et al. (2021) has demonstrated that antibodies of vaccinated people did not neutralize the Omicron variant: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.11...
