Hi everybody, welcome to the bindery! *Edit for those of you asking about the printer: It's an Epson EcoTank ET-16600. I introduced it in my 'E-book to Real Book Series' here: • From E-Book to Real Book: Chapter 1 - Type... One of the last steps in the process of typesetting and imposing a book is to print up a physical copy which I can then thoroughly check for errors. Called a 'proofing copy' or just a 'proof', it is a much better medium for catching misspelled words or bad typesetting than reading on a screen, and so I consider it a necessity. The book I'm working on is Howard Pyle's 'The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood'. Originally written in 1883, it's a whimsical and lighthearted retelling of some of Robin Hood's best-known adventures. Pyle's numerous detailed illustrations, of which I've tried to include as many as I could find, add immensely to the book's charm. I fully intend to do a deluxe version of the book in the future, but that's dependent on me first finalizing the typesetting. And so here we are. I could have simply printed up the text and done my proofreading with a stack of looseleaf sheets, but if I'm going to spend a week or two with the book then I want it to be a pleasant experience. Thus I came up with this relatively quick softcover binding structure, which can be completed in just a few hours. It uses a single wide piece of cardstock as a cover and a minimal amount of glue. I added marbled endpapers for fun, but those are entirely optional. This video isn't meant to be a tutorial, and as such I keep my commentary to a minimum. It's more of a vibe session I suppose. Every step of the binding is shown, however, and most of the processes should be familiar to anyone who has been following along with my other instructional videos. And if you especially like being a fly on the wall in the bindery, there's a 90+ minute version without dialogue or music over on my Patreon, if you're interested. And finally, if you'd like to print and bind your own version of this book, then I have good news for you! It's available for purchase, also on Patreon, in both Letter and A4 format. Each download comes with the book imposed in both 6-sheet and 8-sheet signatures, which will allow you to print yours to best suit your own materials and binding style. Letter Size: / merry-adventures-137306878 A4 Size: / merry-adventures-137304947 Whether you make your own books or simply like to observe the process, I hope you find something in the video to brighten your day. Be well everyone, and I'll see you next time!
