Today is sweltering with 33°C and high humidity. The bugs are not too bad, but I keep having to spray every few hours due to sweating. It is nice in the shade though as long as you are not moving nor doing anything strenuous. I will have to be mindful of that, and keep taking breaks, and drinking water to stay hydrated. I was determined to spray the old fire pit today as there was no rain, but it is windy. I waited for the wind to die down and to my astonishment I was able to do the planter in between calm spurts. It took me a total of 15 minutes with two coats. I cannot believe how long I put this off, but finally today I did it!! I sprayed early in the morning before the humidity hit. After I finished, I weeded by the front of the bunkie as we have all these weeks growing in the limestone. A distraction, I guess! I LOVE weeding!! I do weed here from time to time, but the weeds are especially pesky this year with all the rain and humidity we have been getting. After that I worked on the Stella D’Oro rock garden as I was also determined to finish it today. I knew after 2 p.m. I would not be able to work in that area, as the sun would be beaming down and the heat would be intolerable. I planned to take a break when I lost shade, and have a late lunch. I was very happy with the progress with the garden thus far, and I continued to wrap the stone pavers around to compliment the tree stump and the Sparky garden. This area is very ‘rooty’ and I keep removing thin feathery roots to allow for planting. I plan to add soil here but I would like to keep some of the soil that is currently here too. I found another big root but I will leave it as it is low enough that it will stay buried underneath the surface. It is about 3” in diameter and would be a challenge to cut given its location. I will take care to plant away from that root and I will keep an eye on the plants in case they do not adapt well. Over time, it will eventually rot away and will therefore not be an issue, I hope. It was tricky wrapping the stone pavers in that area as we have the large rocks that outline and separate the sand from the garden. After several tries, I finally figured out the angle. I have a solar light that I will leave in the garden to light the rocks at night so no one trips, but the stake has broken off from the light and it is awfully wobbly now due to the short stake. I anchored it with rocks and pebbles but it keeps flopping over – I will have to figure that out later, as my focus today is finishing the garden! I am happy with the shape of the garden and I FINALLY planted the Stella D’Oros!!! I can tell you that I am relieved to cross off two projects from my To Do list. I still have to finish the ‘moss’ part of the garden but that should not take long - I will aim for tomorrow... I tidied up, watered the Stella D’Oros and went in. Nice progress today!!! The poor roofers are here today as well, and I feel so bad for them working in this heat!!
