Mezzo-soprano Robin Hendrix shares her work on the vocal technique of Edmund John Myer, whose book, The Renaissance of the Vocal Art, was published in 1902. His discovery of a simple three-part gesture to aid in naturally opening the ventricles of the larynx to produce a beautiful tone sought to revolutionize the vocal scene in his epoch. He did not succeed in convincing most voice teachers to use his discovery, but he continued writing, His last book, The Vocal Istructor, is the most succinct version of how to achieve his gesture, along with exercises and vocalises.
