By: Envaalde Matheus Agriculture minister, Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi, has urged the ministry staff to remain on high alert and strengthen emergency response systems, warning that weak readiness threatens food production and public safety. Speaking at a meeting in Windhoek on Thursday, she cited recent food poisoning cases in the Kavango regions and a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in South Africa as reminders that health and agricultural risks require coordinated, rapid action. Zaamwani-Kamwi said weak supervision, poor communication and slow administration hinders the ministry’s work, hence her call for staff to focus on efficiency and effectiveness to ensure the ministry delivers for farmers and communities. She said excessive bureaucracy and unresolved backlogs, with files passing through too many desks, are holding up service delivery and must be streamlined immediately. She urged staff to eliminate procurement bottlenecks, stressing that delays and lack of accountability are disrupting operations and causing shortages of essentials.
