Recording of live performance of the new music-theatre composition AURAL TRANSGRESSIONS by Zachar Laskewicz, for which he also wrote the words. The Transgressions of the title refer not only to the poems, but to the fact that special and unusual motions are required of the performers to be able to realise this composition, including Javanese 'Imbal' and Balinese 'Kotekan' which require essential coordination between the performers who together by playing consecutive notes produce a new melody. In the original score, movements around the stage are also recorded by the performers, although the circumstances of the performance hall did not allow this (and the techniques the violin players had to learn for this performance were difficult enough). Guy de Mey, well-known Belgian tenor, gives his best to allow the performance to become a success; he truly understood the logic of the texts considering they were dedicated to him. The design of the film is original using frames created within the studio and animated; the soundtrack was a digital recording provided by Frank Agsteribbe, Belgian composer and performer (who played harpsichord for this work). It all took place in Radovljica Manor, Radovljica, Slovenia on August 12, 2001. I couldn't attend the performance because I was in Manhattan at the time (allowing me to witness first-hand the catastrophic destruction of two edifices of American capitalism, but that's another story).
