"Teach Me Tonight" - a popular song, first published in 1953 by Gene De Paul and Sammy Cahn, became a jazz standard. It has been recorded over the years by many great performers in many different styles (e.g., Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, James Taylor, Jo Stafford, Dinah Washington, Blossom Dearie, Ann-Margret, Amy Winehouse, and many others). When Bob Perna (my boss during the period between 1977 and 1983) suggested that he would love for the band to play a chart on this tune, I jumped at the opportunity. The result was the arrangement performed live in concert on this recording. It's in the jazz "big-band" style with a few interesting harmonic twists, it has a great melody (played by Bob P.) and what I think is a pretty darn good jazz trombone solo (by me). The song was performed to perfection by our great Chicago-based band (after many hours of rehearsal, of course). I hope you'll agree that this rendition of the standard, "Teach Me Tonight," is truly a classic. So, get ready to dance! (Your feet won't need to learn any steps because they will instinctively know how to dance to this one!) Recorded live at Triton College on September 9, 1982, for a packed and enthusiastic audience, the Bob Perna Band played its butt off on this recording. Enjoy! The musicians are: Bob Perna, Trumpet/Flugelhorn Bob Samborski, Trombone, Arranger, Trombone Solo Frank Gualtieri, Trombone Larry Gianneschi, Alto Sax Don Loizzo, Keyboards Don Billow, Bass Guitar Hank Guaglianone, Drums Roel Travino, Latin Percussion If you liked this recording, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to my channel. Also, I really hope you will take a moment to leave a comment about the "video." I promise I will read it. Thanks so much, Bob Samborski
