Conversations with...Vasili #36: With The Charismatic & Passionate Emanuel Comino AO Sydney historian Vasilis Vasilas began a series of discussions with members of Sydney's Greek community about significant events in their lives. In this thirty-sixth episode Vasilis talks to the one of Sydney's most charismatic and passionate individuals, Emanuel Comino AO about his Kytherian background, the great loss of his mother, Sophia, as a young child, visiting Kythera with his father, John (Ioannis) and brother, Peter (Panayiotis) and subsequnetly getting stuck there during World War II, returning to Australia where he worked in his father's business, Comino Cafe, joining the Australian Air Force, marrying the love of his life, Matina, running a milk bar in Guilford, Sydney, before establishing his insurance business in the early 1960s, becoming active in Sydney's Greek community, how he became involved in the campaign for the return of the Parthenon Marbles, how Matina and Emanuel passed down the Greek culture to their children, and his love for Kythera.
