www.Thriveyork.com God Uses People Acts 1:12-26 | SENT: The Church God Designed | Week 2Thrive Church 661 N Newberry St York PA 17404 BIG IDEA: God doesn't work in a vacuum — He uses people. The mission can only be fulfilled if people are willing to get on board. TOGETHER AND PRAYING (vv. 12-14) "With one accord" — (same + passion) Different notes harmonizing together — not uniformity, but unity Matthew (tax collector) and Simon (Zealot) in the same room praying together When we can't come together for Jesus, we're defined by preferences instead of Him The world is divisive. The church is meant to be the opposite. PETER STEPS UP (vv. 15-20) Proximity to Jesus doesn't guarantee faithfulness to Jesus Peter denied Jesus three times — and now he's leading Judas heard every sermon, saw every miracle — and still walked away Being in the building doesn't mean your heart is with Jesus THE QUALIFICATIONS (vv. 21-23) "One of these must become" — (divine necessity) Must have been with Jesus from the beginning and witnessed the resurrection Out of 120 people, only two qualified — Joseph and Matthias God is looking for faithful people, not famous people THE PRAYER AND THE CHOICE (vv. 24-26) "You who know the hearts" — (heart-knower) We can see resumes. Only God can see hearts. Matthias was chosen — and we never hear about him again Success in God's kingdom is measured by faithfulness, not visibility FIVE KINDS OF PEOPLE GOD USES: 1. Unified people — pulling in the same direction despite differences 2. Restored people — your past doesn't disqualify you 3. Faithful people — consistency matters more than platform 4. Dependent people — apart from Him we can do nothing 5. Surrendered people — more committed to the mission than their position 60-DAY WORSHIP CHALLENGE The early church gathered together and prayed together — and God used them. When you show up, you contribute to the unity. When you skip, the body is incomplete. Faithfulness in the little things is how we learn to be faithful in the big things. Question: What little things have you been skipping in hopes that bigger things would follow? Thrive Church CCL #253399 CCLI #20114324 www.thriveyork.com
