Insomnia is one of the most common problems I see in clinical practice. Many people believe that everyone else sleeps perfectly every night and that something must be wrong with them when they struggle to sleep. The reality is that sleep is variable and often influenced by multiple systems in the body. In this video I walk through the framework I use with patients when they are struggling with insomnia. We discuss: Why the idea that everyone sleeps perfectly is a myth How tossing and turning becomes a “mental game” that makes insomnia worse. The three major systems that commonly disrupt sleep: 1) Sleep Hygiene / Lifestyle 2) Medical Problems 3) Mental Health / Neurochemical balance Understanding these systems can help you identify the real drivers behind insomnia and start addressing the root causes rather than simply trying to force sleep.
