Day 1, Unity Introduction, Be One Because of some recent experiences in my personal life, I would like to discuss the principle of unity. And the principles that govern unity. President Eyring shared these words in 2018, “We know from experience that joy comes when we are blessed with unity. We yearn, as spirit children of our Heavenly Father, for that joy which we once had with Him in the life before this one. His desire is to grant us that sacred wish for unity.” (President Henry B. Eyring,Our Hearts Knit as One,” CR 10/18) There is an innate desire inherit in all of us, because of who we are, as children of our Father in Heaven, And, because of the joy we experienced with Him in the premortal life. There is a deep yearning we all have inside of us. The Lord has said, “I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.” (D&C 38:37) Ask yourself, why is this principle true? Why is unity the requirement to truly become ‘Sons and daughters unto God,’ and to and truly Be His. The Savior, in His intercessory prayer, prayed, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:20-23) Without spending too much time breaking down these words, consider the words, “the Glory which thou gavest me I have given them;” Why? Because it is through that transformation power that we can truly experience unity. His glory, given to Him by the Father, then can be given to us from Him. This allows us to be made perfect. Or in other words, to be made whole or complete. Have you thought how many individuals were healed by the Savior, but the Savior didn’t want to just provide physical healing, He wanted individuals to be whole. This wholeness is born of faith in and conversion to Jesus Christ. It’s literally transformation. This taking upon us the Savior’s name is one way, we know the reality of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that he lives. And is the only name given under heaven whereby we can have the power to return and live with the Father. How grateful I am for the ongoing transformation that is happening in my life. That He can give me his glory, that through Him, and by him, and of him, he can create me, into an individual that can ‘Be one’ with Him and our Father. And … then, in the truest sense, experience our Heavenly Father and Savior’s love. But the reality is he will not compel us to receive his glory, and become one with them, we must use our moral agency and choose to accept it. Come back tomorrow as we speak about how the command to, ‘Be One’ embraces all other commands.
