Crossing the Peru to Bolivia border with Peru Hop | Isla del Sol | AFL Grand Final 2024 in La Paz

Hi, we are Ged and Kelsie - two Aussies making our way through South America. With a new country on the horizon, and some new core memories to make, we start our journey from Cusco to La Paz. A long, but comfortable, bus ride took us to our first stop in the town of Puno, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It was only a short stop but we did manage a misty boat ride out to the floating Islands of Uros. The communities that live on these islands are very welcoming and wasted no time showing us their small but special plot on the lake. Back on the bus, we shot down the road to the border - where it was time to say goodbye to Peru (and Peru Hop) and hello to Bolivia (and Bolivia Hop). The border crossing was pretty simple, just had to grab a leaving stamp from Peru, walk across the border and receive an entry stamp in Bolivia. After this, it was only a short wait for our new bus and the journey continued. It wasn’t far to go as we decided to spend a night in the beautiful lakeside town of Copacabana. We stayed in a lovely hostal overlooking the water and got some much needed, non bus-ride, sleep. The next morning we took a trip out on the lake to Isla del Sol. It was super windy but otherwise the weather was spectacular. A short hike over the Island provided amazing views and gave us some perspective on just how massive Lake Titicaca is (HUGE!). We had an evening bus ride to complete our journey to La Paz and would hopefully make it in time to catch the AFL Grand Final (Go Lions!). There was a very sketchy water crossing but we managed to get in with an hour to spare. The rest of the evening was a mix of highs but ultimately lows as the Brisbane Lions lost the big dance by only 4 points… How will the sun even rise after such a heart crushing event?
