Or are you a Ma speaker looking to improve your English skills? This video is perfect for both language learners and heritage speakers! 🎙️ In this video, Bi Ka (a native Ma speaker) — a fluent speaker of both English and Ma — teaches essential greetings using a simple and effective format. Each phrase is first said in English by Lap Siu, then Bi Ka repeats it twice in Ma, giving you time to listen and practice. The Mạ, or Maa, language belongs to the Mon-Khmer language group. It is closely related to the Koho language, and some researchers even consider the two to be different dialects rather than completely separate languages. Scholars such as Jean Boulbet and Lê et al. have identified several Mạ subgroups. According to the 2019 census, more than 50,000 Mạ people live in different communes across Lâm Đồng Province. These include Lộc Thắng, Lộc Bắc, Lộc Tân, Lộc Lâm, Lộc Ngãi, and Lộc Châu in Bảo Lộc District; Đạ Teh, Đạ M’rê, Đạ Huoai, Đồng Nai, and Ma Đa Gui in Đạ Huoai District; Đạ Đờn and Phú Sơn in Đức Trọng District; and Đinh Trang Thượng in northern Di Linh District.
