Case Study: Modern and Traditional Design Mix in Scandinavian-Inspired Home

Years of collaboration between the builder, architect, and interior designer led to the completion of this Swedish Country Home in Minnesota. The house blends modern and traditional to create a transitional style. Textures, hues, eras, and influences mix in the home’s final design. The team used family photos to inform the home’s architectural details. One of the main elements was the quintessential steeply pitched Scandinavian roof. Another was natural light. Windows and doors from the Marvin Ultimate collection let in light and the view of the rolling horse fields surrounding the house. The Ultimate collection’s extensive color options also gave the design team options when selecting the fenestration colors. They chose Cadet Gray, further pushing the architecture into Scandinavia. “Scandinavians in general really appreciate natural light because half of the year it never gets dark, and the other half it never gets light,” said Charlie Simmons, founding principal of Charle & Co.
