Anatomical directions, positions, and movements are fundamental concepts in understanding the human body. Anatomical Directions: Anterior (ventral): Toward the front of the body. Posterior (dorsal): Toward the back of the body. Superior (cranial): Toward the head or upper part of the body. Inferior (caudal): Toward the feet or lower part of the body. Medial: Toward the midline of the body. Lateral: Away from the midline of the body. Proximal: Closer to the point of attachment or trunk .Distal: Farther from the point of attachment or trunk. Superficial: Closer to the surface of the body .Deep: Farther from the surface of the body. Anatomical Positions: Anatomical Position: Standing upright, facing forward, arms at the sides, palms facing forward, and feet parallel. Supine: Lying face up .Prone: Lying face down. Anatomical Movements: Flexion: Decreasing the angle between two body parts. Extension: Increasing the angle between two body parts .Abduction: Moving a body part away from the midline .Adduction: Moving a body part toward the midline. Rotation: Turning a body part around its axis. Circumduction: Moving a body part in a circular motion. Elevation: Raising a body part. Depression: Lowering a body part. Protraction: Moving a body part forward. Retraction: Moving a body part backward. Pronation: Rotating the forearm so that the palm faces downward.
