Join me after the ants have gone underground for winter as I stop to take in the lovely fall colors and nice vistas along Highway 30, the Historic Columbia River Scenic Highway near Rowena, Oregon in November 2024. This route, the first scenic highway in the U.S., winds along the south bank of the Columbia River where its Gorge cuts through the Cascade mountains. It's bikeable the whole way, and drivable except for a few miles between Hood River and Mosier, where the roadway has been converted to a multi-use path. The scenery is amazing the whole way, and the two-lane road very narrow, so motorists and bicyclists must use the utmost of caution as they try to take in the views and scenes and vistas.. Along with great views and wonderful fall colors, I found not one single ant.
