La spiaggia di Su Portu, arrivando da Cagliari, è la prima di una lunga serie che caratterizza il litorale di Chia. La cala di Su Portu è protetta dalla scogliera da un lato e dal promontorio che ospita la torre di Chia dall’altro lato. Dietro la spiaggia c’è una pineta. Le acque di questo mare cristallino devono le sfumature di colore chiaro alla sabbia altrettanto chiara e fine, mentre gli scogli che incastonano la spiaggia offrono a questo tratto di mare una notevole varietà di specie animali. Pochi passi oltre la spiaggia si può apprezzare e raggiungere l’isolotto di Su Cardulinu, sul quale si possono ancora intravedere i resti di un tempio punico, che probabilmente fu, ancora prima, un tophet fenicio. La torre di Chia sorge su un promontorio in cui era anticamente situato il villaggio punico-romano di Bithia. Questa è una delle 105 torri costiere della Sardegna, fu edificata nel 1578 per proteggere la foce del rio Chia (preziosa risorsa per le scorte d’acqua dolce) dalle incursioni dei pirati Dalla scogliera opposta alla torre si può percorrere un’antica strada romana, un suggestivo sentiero costiero che collegava le antiche città di Nora e Bithia. The Su Portu cove is protected by the cliff on one side and by the promontory which houses the Chia tower on the other side. Behind the beach there is a pine forest. The waters of this crystalline sea have shades of light color thanks to the equally light and fine sand, while the rocks that frame the beach offer this stretch of sea a notable variety of animal species. A few steps beyond the beach you can appreciate and reach the islet of Su Cardulinu, on which you can still glimpse the remains of a Punic temple, which was probably, even before, a Phoenician tophet. The Chia tower stands on a promontory where the Punic-Roman village of Bithia was once located. This is one of the 105 coastal towers in Sardinia, it was built in 1578 to protect the mouth of the Rio Chia (a precious resource for fresh water supplies) from pirate incursions From the cliff opposite the tower you can follow an ancient Roman road, a suggestive coastal path that connected the ancient cities of Nora and Bithia.
