Today on our 2014 Lexus RX 450H, we'll be installing the Curt two inch receiver tube hitch, part number C13143. Here's what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next, we'll give you a couple of measurements. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin pole to the outermost end of the bumpers is five inches. From the top of the receiver tube openings to the ground is 18 inches. Now, we'll go ahead with the installation. We'll first need to remove the lower facia 00:00:33. This piece extends from the driver side, all the way to the exhaust, where there a multiple fasteners that will need to be removed. Start with the screw fasteners first. For these two, turn the fastener to release them from the stud. Next, we'll remove the push pin fasteners. To remove them, we'll use our flat blade screwdriver. Pry the center of the fastener out, then we can remove the fastener completely. There's one more push pin fastener, but it's underneath the wheel well guard and mudflap. We'll remove one of the fasteners from the mudflap to give us some working room. We'll pull back on the wheel well guard and mudflap to expose the push pin and then remove it. Now, with all the fasteners removed, we can go ahead and remove the facia. Next, we'll need to remove the manufacturer's tow hooks. There's one on each side, each on is secured with two fasteners. Go ahead and set the tow hook and fasteners aside, as they will not be re-used with the hitch. With the tow hooks removed, we'll re-use the well nuts for our rear and center attachment points for our hitch. The forward attachment point will be underneath the plastic plug installed in the frame. Using our flat blade screwdriver, we'll go ahead and remove the plastic plug. This will expose the well nut in the frame, keep in mind, each process we do to one side, will get repeated identically on the other side. Now, over time, these well nuts in the frame will build up with rust, dust, dirt and debris and can be difficult to install the new fasteners. So we're going to go ahead and clean out the well nuts. Using a half-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, and some spray lubricant, we can clean out the well nuts by spraying the well nut and then thoroughly cleaning it with the tube brush. Once we've got them cleaned out, we'll take one of the new fasteners and thread into the well nut to make sure they're nice and easily. To secure the hitch, we'll get a new 12 millimeter bolt, and half inch conkletooth 00:03:10 washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. We're now ready to install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while we lift it into place and install the fasteners finger tight. We'll push down on the exhaust, so we can feed the hitch over it. We'll then install each fastener finger tight until we have them all in place. Now with all our fasteners in place, we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Then we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. We'll need to make a cutout in the facia to accommodate the hitch. This section here is where it's going to interfere with the hitch. I'll take a couple measurements, making it four and a half inches wide by six inches deep. Then we'll mark out that section and cut out the area. To cut it, we can use a sharp utility knife, ten snips, aviation shears, cutoff wheel or some sort of rotary tool. We're just going to use our rotary tool. Once we have our cutout made, we'll re-install the facia. If the hitch still interferes with the facia, we'll take the facia back down and cut out the block area. Our last step is to re-install the facia fasteners. With that, we've completed the install of our Curt hitch, part number C13143 on our 2014 Lexus RX 450H. .
