notes: https://pastebin.com/xPdS6NvA harvest moon speedrun discord: / discord my absolute favorite route ever devised for this game. cake contest never disappoints. this route uses the recently discovered "part-time work escape" to steal bob's milker, saving the 1800G you would normally need to buy your own. the rest of the required money (2500G for the cow) is acquired through a combination of foraging, mining, eggs, and selling chickens. incubating extra chickens also improves the odds to get a golden egg, so you're not forced to reset over both golden egg AND golden milk at the very end. i would say this is the first truly "tight" run of cake contest. no crop RNG, no variance due to weather, and a quick (second try) golden milk to cap it off. strictly speaking, this route is slower than growing corn and buying your own milker, but it requires very good mild season rain luck to save watering time (4+ rainy days, preferably on non-harvest days, when the average is like 2-3), no crop losses, and very fast golden egg/milk to end the run. and to be honest, the route with PTW escape is just more interesting to grind. every run is different, it requires a lot of on-the-fly decision-making, and it's just a cooler route. the biggest issue with PTW escape is that once you've stolen the milker, you have to save, quit, and reload the file in order to reset the PTW state, or else your cow will only produce small milk. this costs like 45 seconds, and without this requirement, i think this route would just straight up be better than normal crop strats. so it's kind of sad, but this was still really fun to route and grind, and it honestly feels like the first proper "glitched" run of sth, since we finally have something more than just a basic affection spam.
