Papua New Guinea and Australia came together in Cairns on Thursday, 11 December 2025, to farewell Sir Graeme Ian Whitchurch, affectionately known as Sir Boga — a quiet nation-builder whose legacy shaped Papua New Guinea’s Parliament, public service and sporting community. The funeral service was attended by Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, family and friends, and featured tributes from: The Reverend Father John Mudge, delivering the homily Bruce Mackinlay, lifelong friend, delivering the eulogy Kala Aufa, Clerk of the National Parliament of PNG H.E. John Kali, PNG High Commissioner to Australia Speakers reflected on Sir Graeme’s lifelong service to Papua New Guinea, his pivotal role in building the National Parliament, his influence through the Koboni Football Club, and his devotion to his family, including his wife Lady Kaia, children and grandchildren. Sir Graeme’s life was marked by humility, integrity and service — a legacy that lives on in the institutions he helped build and the lives he touched. 🕊️ May Sir Boga rest in eternal peace.
