We start this video by introducing the concept of moments and visually show how they help to uniquely identify a probability distribution. Next, we introduce moment generating function and how it can be used to derive moments of different orders. We then give an example of how we can derive moment generating function and first moment (mean) of poisson distribution, which is a discrete probability distribution. We also give an example of how we can derive moment generating function and first moment (mean) of standard normal distribution, which is a continuous probability distribution.
