How We Juice Sugar Cane

Today we're sharing how we juice sugar cane here on our property in tropical northern Queensland. The cane we are juicing today is 'Badila' cane - a variety we haven't tried before - that was gifted to us from a friend who cleared a bunch from her suburban garden. Badila cane is renowned for its beautiful deep purple colour and wonderful health benefits. This batch tasted a lot less sweet than the cane we grow here on our property, but that can be due to a number of factors such as the age of the cane, how it's grown, where it's grown etc (I have very little knowledge on sugar cane, I just like to juice it!) There are MANY ways to juice sugar cane, across many many cultures. This juicer is by Juice India and is commercial grade - we are very lucky to have it. Sugar cane can be cleaned in so many different ways. We usually pressure wash our own cane as it comes from a big old crop and is usually very dirty. Often we use steel wool to really get into all the little nodes and joins. However - this cane today was already quite clean and only needed a blast with the hose and a bit of light scrubbing.
