Seattle Collaborative Orchestra - https://www.seattlecollaborativeorche... Music Director - Anna Edwards May 13, 2025 Born in Hong Kong, Kevin Lau is now one of Canada’s most prominent young composers. His works have been performed internationally by groups such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Brass Project, and the TorQ Percussion Quartet. As a grad student at the University of Toronto, he helped co-found the Sneak Peek Orchestra in 2012, which debuted his piece, Fanfare for the Sneak Peek Orchestra. It was intended as a tribute to the imagination, energy, and optimism of youth, as so stirringly exhibited by the young members of this group. He later revisited the piece, looking to rename it to something more universal, he looked within the music and realized he had drawn on feelings from his youth. Filled with sweeping thematic statements, continuous modal modulation, and a sense of unreserved lyricism, this is music descended from the language of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, and James Horner. Overture to the Silver Screen invites the listener to imagine their own stories and images. Program notes by Clementine Stevenson, violin
