I spent two hours railfanning at the Sounder station in Kent, WA (about 18 miles south of Seattle). I caught 8 trains in total, a mix of passenger trains, local freight jobs and through trains. There are a variety of shooting locations here - on the platforms, on the pedestrian bridge and the bridge stairwells. The stairwells and bridges are covered, allowing you to shoot in the rain without soaking your equipment - very important in the rainy Northwest! For those of you that railfan in the Seattle area, I had a nice chat with a Sounder security guard while there. He confirmed that Sound Transit's photography policy is that photography/videography is OK at Sound Transit stations provided you're in areas open to the public. Platforms, pedestrian bridges, etc are OK. On the tracks or in employee only areas are not OK. This is part 1 of 3. First up is Crew 2 running southbound on Main 1 with a short cut of cars. I believe this job transfers cars between Seattle (Glacier Park Yard, maybe South Seattle Yard) and Tacoma Yard, among other duties. 2747 / 2720 GP38-2 / GP39-2 Train #2 is a short vehicle train southbound on Main 1, with BNSF 5174 leading. 5174 / 728 C44-9W / C44-9W Train #3 is a northbound Amtrak Cascades running at full track speed on Main 2 led by AMTK 469 469 / 90340 F59PHI / NPCU
