Where in Prague can you find the biggest forest, the most ponds per capita, a castle where a horror movie was filmed, or strawberry fields? Yes, in Kunratice, one of the most popular family locations that hides a number of surprises. That's why we dedicated this video to them. Do you know how Kunratice got its name? It got it thanks to the Kunrat family, who settled here in the 13th century. Although you won't find their descendants here anymore, traces of history are still there, for example in the form of the castle. What will happen to the castle? Kunratice Castle grew up on the site of the original fortress and has undergone many changes over the centuries. Unfortunately, it is not in the best condition today – perhaps that is why the creators of the film Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman chose it as the backdrop for their horror film. The castle now has a new owner – billionaire Vojtěch Kačena bought it together with part of the castle park for 106 million crowns. What will happen to the historic building next is not entirely clear. The locals would mainly like it to be accessible and to avoid having to take a detour from the courtyard to the castle garden due to the locked gate. If their wish were granted, pedestrians and cyclists would be able to use the path from Krčský les through the castle and the Kunratice pheasant farm to the Olšanský pond. By the way, another castle in Prague is awaiting its fate, which recently went through an unsuccessful auction. Which one are we talking about? Watch our video: • Zámek v Praze na prodej – kolik stojí? Forest for family walks and runs Kunratice can also boast the largest forest area in Prague – the Kunratice (sometimes also unofficially called the Krčský) forest. The extensive forest has been here for more than half a millennium and once belonged to King Wenceslas IV. The remains of the castle where he often stayed and where he died still remind us of him. Today, every second Sunday in November, the Velká kunratická race takes place here, which is known primarily for its demanding elevation. Fortunately, you can choose from various routes, one of which is also for children. Ponds everywhere Kunratice can also boast three ponds, which means that they have the most ponds in Prague relative to the number of inhabitants. The most famous is Šeberák, where you can swim in the summer and which also has one of the oldest nudist beaches. Famous restaurants And while we are talking about Kunratice rarities, we must not forget the famous restaurants here. For a good beer and tripe, you can go to Lokál U Zavadilů. By the way, we tested tripe soup in a recent video by Jan Punčochář, watch: • Od východu na západ – nezapomenutelná... Great beer is brewed in Spojovně, which is located at the crossroads between Chodov, Kunratice and Šeberov. Another Kunratice beer is brewed at the Muflon brewery, and the local hop juice is collecting one award after another. We must not forget Food Story, a restaurant renowned for its amazing food, which also houses an organic food shop. The best strawberries If Kunratice is famous for anything, it is self-picking strawberries. The 5th generation of the Jakoub family has been growing them here. This year, the picking should start in mid-June – just bring your own basket and start picking. Will you go to Kunratice for strawberries this year? And which place do you like to visit the most?
