Better Networking Results Episode 117 Networking 3x3x3 Provides Better Networking Results I’ve been in enough rooms with finger foods, name tags, and stacks of business cards to know the pattern. You show up, make the rounds, collect 50 cards, and go home feeling accomplished. You and your business card collection realize in a few days nothing is happening. Early in my sales career, I thought attendance would equal results. It doesn’t. Fundamentals do. And in a world obsessed with digital shortcuts, the basics of relationship-building still win. If you feel like business networking is a waste of time, stay with me a little longer. I’ll show you how to reverse that opinion based on real results. Here’s the Framework for Networking Results I teach my clients and my BNI chapter: 3x3x3. Three hours, three days, three weeks. It’s not flashy. It’s consistent. And it works. Preparing for Networking Results When you’re going to a networking event, go in with intention! If the host shares an attendee list, identify the three people you most want to meet. Prepare a tight, genuine elevator pitch about who you are and the problems you solve. Practice it. Record it if you can. Study yourself. I know. It sounds weird or self-centered. It’s not. This step is about “perfect practice”. When you prepare this way, you can focus on the person in front of you rather than on your words. Dress as you intend to be remembered. In the room, quality beats quantity. Listen during introductions for your targets: “warehouse,” “fleet vehicles,” “senior living,” “apartment communities”. All of these are likely prospects for a janitorial series company. Know your primary customer verticals and ensure they align with your services. At The Networking Event Approach with a firm handshake and eye contact. When possible, use their name. Ask about them first. People reveal a lot when you give them the space. When you get a card, jot a few notes. After listening to this person you may have learned. They: Outsourced vs. using in-house cleaning teams You learned the frequency of service They revealed pain points I can tell you from experience, ten meaningful cards will outperform fifty random ones every time. Better Networking Results Post Event Then the 3x3x3 kicks in: Within 3 hours: Send a short, warm email. “Great meeting you tonight! I’d love to grab a coffee and learn more about your operation.” Keep it light and human. You’re starting a dialogue, not pitching a proposal. At 3 days: Call. Yes, actually call. Reference the event and your email. Your goal is a quick meeting to explore fit and potential referrals. Some people respond to email; others only move on a phone call. Discipline beats discomfort. At 3 weeks: Mail a concise, professional letter. Reintroduce yourself, reiterate why a conversation could be valuable, and emphasize mutual benefit. This is where many competitors fall off. If you’re using 3x3x3 and our profiler, you won’t. Over time, two powerful things happen. First, responses stack. One person replies to the email, another to the call, a third to the letter. Consistency compounds. Second, you learn their communication preferences. We have a great, low cost tool for that. If they text after you call, note that. If they email back immediately, that’s your lane. Meet them where they are. Networking isn’t about instant gratification. I recently received an inquiry from someone I met fifteen years ago. Fifteen years! Let THAT sink in. We created a positive interaction back then. Since that time, their company grew and now they need help. That’s the dividend consistency pays. When your Networking Results Feel Flat If you’re new to this, or rusty, remember: you don’t need to “work the room.” You need to work a plan. Show up prepared. Be curious. Capture details. Follow the 3x3x3 format. Do it every time. You’ll convert more, build stronger alliances, and stop wasting evenings collecting business cards that will do nothin more that collect dust. If you own a cleaning company and want coaching on how to turn networking into steady revenue, reach out. We don’t use gimmicks. We train good habits. I’ll help you build a practical plan, refine your pitch, and implement the 3x3x3 system so you leave every event with momentum, not just business cards. https://docsfs.com/coaching-owner/
