My new recording, made yesterday (Sunday march 19, 2017) of Grieg's 19 Norwegian Folk Tunes, Op. 66. I always love Grieg most when he gets close to his roots. Consequently, this set is one of my three favorite Grieg opuses, the other two being the Slåtter Op. 72 and the 25 Norwegian Dances and Folk Songs, Op.17. I hope to record the Slåtter before long, of the Op.17 set there is already a recording on my channel. In these works Grieg is generally more daring and harmonically advanced than in hit more traditional work like the Lyric Pieces. With their sharp, fresh and earthy sounds and smells (yes!!) they cast their shadow ahead to the later and more experimental music of Geirr Tveitt. Despite a handful of tiny imperfections I am quite satisfied with this recording. I hope you can enjoy it.
