This is a single segment speedrun of Super Donkey Kong 2: Dixie & Diddy (the Japanese version of Donkey Kong Country 2), played on a modded North American Super Nintendo console, and completed in 40 minutes, 56 seconds by J timing (reset until final Kremkoin drop), or 40 minutes, 37 seconds by NA timing (new Game until final Kremkoin drop). This run aims for fastest possible completion. This run was obtained on December 4th, 2014. It is my first ever completion of DKC2 to achieve a time of 40:XX by Japanese timing standards, fulfilling a goal I set earlier this year. This run improves me previous best in this category (40-45 NA timing) by 8 seconds, mostly through overall cleaner play. A few new strategies were implemented in various levels, with the most notable being a more optimal invincibility barrel grab in Clapper's Cavern (inspired by the TAS), saving about .7 seconds. The routes used in Mudhole Marsh, Web Woods, and Toxic Tower were also slightly improved, which help compensate for the mistakes made in each of those levels. Speaking of mistakes, here's a somewhat extensive list of the errors this time around: 1-3 (1:16) - Failed goal swap 1-B (2:25) - 1 fake 3-2 (6:51) - Very poor swimming overall 3-4 (9:49) - Bad "RNG" on the Kaboing spawn 3-6 (11:13) - Failed quickshot 4-5 (19:10) - Failed the Kloster wiggle... again 5-5 (26:40) - Bonked into the the TNT Klobber 6-1 (28:58) - Poor movement in general 6-6 (34:40) - 2 failed double jumps + poor Squawks flying 7-B (40:06) - Team throw over red smoke for safety However, despite all these mistakes, the run & overall time are quite good for the SNES version. A 40:4X J / 40:2X NA are both possible on this version of the game, but it's uncertain if I will grind for it anytime soon (if ever). Enjoy!
