Today's video features a walk from Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden, down to the foreshore at Lavender Bay, past the iconic Luna Park, and onto a ferry at Milson's Point wharf and across the beautiful Sydney Harbour to Circular Quay. Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden After the death of her husband, the renowned artist Brett Whiteley, Wendy Whiteley threw herself into clearing the overgrown bush at the foot of her house; resulting in what would become her secret garden. The garden is a public space and free to visit. It is open at all hours; however, due to it's many steps, narrow paths, embankments and lack of lighting, people are encouraged to visit during daylight hours. Comic Walk Also known as the Peter Kingston Walkway (named after the local artist whose work is showcased), this outdoor display features sculptures from the golden age of Australian comics and children's literature in the early 20th century. Only a few are shown in this video. Luna Park Based on the first Luna Park which was opened on Coney Island, New York in 1903, Luna Park in Sydney, Australia was opened on 4th October 1935. The park continued to operate until 1979, when a fatal fire in the Ghost Train ride saw it shut down. The park was re-opened in 1982 but was closed again in 1988 for renovations. Several years of financial difficulties, legal battles due to noise complaints and changes in ownership ensued. Today, the park (now listed as part of the NSW State Heritage Register) is again open , much to the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike.
