After a night camping by Phoksundo Lake, we headed north, following the course of the inflow river. We were now in Upper Dolpo. Veering off from the main river, we ascended quickly (over 2 days) to camp by the Mendoktin Khola. From here, trekkers went over our first 5000-metre pass - Mendoktin La (5110m), while the mules and logistics team used the shorter Ning La (even higher). You can say we did half a circumambulation of the Crystal Mountain (Shelri Dugdra), to arrive at Shey, where we had a rest day and visited the gompa.
