What we want is that the things the government from time to time did to the people, they have to take responsibility for that and with this responsibility they have to stand by the truth, for the people of this country. They have to say that, 'In this time and situation, we did this to you. We killed and arrested people.' And about these kinds of actions, they have to apologise to the people. By doing this, they show that they are responsible, from the legal point of view or from the truth. I would say that this is the thing they should do and they must do. That's what we are trying to do to be that way." 8 August 2013 26. Wide of father with two daughters standing in front of crown flowers to remember the 88 uprising victims 27. Close up of girl in front of the crown flowers STORYLINE Activists in Myanmar commemorated the 25th anniversary of what's known as "8888"; the massive pro-democracy protests in August 1988 that shortly afterwards triggered a bloody crackdown. Demonstrators on Thursday defied an order by Burmese police to stop the march, that was considered illegal. Most of the participants in the march were activists from the 88 uprising, political prisoners, National League for Democracy (NLD) members, relatives of the victims and members of student unions. To commemorate the victims, a prayer was held attended by representatives of Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist religions. A parallel ceremony was being held at the Myanmar Convention Centre, attended by members of the current government. He was 29 years old at that time.
