This is how I celebrated my birthday last year. My girlfriend and I came in to go backpacking and enjoy the alpine lakes below Castle Peak for a few days and I decided I would bring a speed wing just in case the weather cooperated for a flight. I would have never imagined I'd get perfect conditions to launch from the summit of Castle. The knife edge summit is only a few feet wide and drops off into 'fall-and-die' terrain on both sides. I originally planned on launching from one of the lower saddles, but once I got up there, I realized there was a perfect headwind coming in to launch from the top! By the time I flew it had started heating up so the flight was a little bumpy, but still an amazing way to descend this mountain. One of those most beautiful peaks in Idaho. Coming in to land I misjudged the wind I saw on the lake. Thinking I had a tailwind I came over the water but got slowed down with a solid headwind and landed a few feet from shore! A nice splashy alpine ice bath.
