We joined fellow mourners at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to pay our respects to the late former Cabinet Minister and leader of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Madam Edith Zewelani Nawakwi. On behalf of the government and the people of Zambia, we thanked Madam Nawakwi for her service to the nation in the various roles she held. We equally acknowledged her role as an opposition leader, including at the time we worked together in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). We also took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of dialogue in conflict resolution. Our government remains open and committed to dialogue. Political competition does not mean enmity; it means competition to serve the people. Let us mourn our departed sister with honour and dignity. We all have a responsibility to ease the burden on the family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.
