You've never been to Tamsui in Taiwan if haven't tried these two unique local old school snacks - Ah-Gei (阿给) and fish crackers (鱼酥). Ah-Gei originates from the Japanese term 'Abura-age' , meaning fried Tofu. It was invented in 1965 by the founders of the eatery 'Original Authentic Ah-Gei’ (老牌阿给) at Zhenli Street. Popular with the locals, Ah-Gei is a simple snack made with fried Tofu stuffed with Tang Hoon and sealed with fish paste. After steaming, it is dribbled with broth, braised sauce and gravy. The Tang Hoon within is soft, silky, and infused with light Tofu flavour. Another well-liked snack is the fish crackers handmade by He Yi (合益鱼丸鱼酥) that has been established for more than 50 years.
