This week of the Hybrid Marathon Build had everything… including my longest run of the block so far and a pretty spectacular fall mid-run. In Week 6 I completed 13 training sessions as I continue building towards my upcoming marathon. The key session of the week was a 32km long run, focusing on time on feet and building endurance deep into the block. Alongside the running, I’m continuing to balance strength training and hybrid style sessions, including a 120kg bench press as part of my full body strength work. The goal of this series is to show what hybrid marathon training actually looks like — balancing endurance, strength, recovery and real life while working towards race day. Not every week goes perfectly though. During one of my runs I managed to trip and take a fairly hard fall, leaving me with some decent road rash and a reminder that marathon training rarely goes completely to plan.
