HS2 is Britain’s new high speed rail line being built from London to the North-West, with HS2 trains linking the biggest cities in Scotland, Manchester, Birmingham and London. It is the largest infrastructure project in Europe and the most important economic and social regeneration project in decades. Since our last update, the Government has updated how it will deliver some of its major transport infrastructure programmes, including HS2, over the next few years. Following those updates, we’ve worked with our construction partners to agree changes to when we will be delivering some parts of our work. Importantly, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering HS2 from Euston to Manchester. On the ground, our priority is to maintain the fantastic momentum we’ve built to ensure that initial high-speed services, connecting our super-hub stations at Old Oak Common and Birmingham Curzon Street, are operational by the early 2030s. The HS2 programme is supporting over 28,500 jobs and has created over 1,200 apprenticeships so far. Over 3,000 UK businesses from Dundee to Devon are already helping to deliver our key milestones and bring the HS2 network to life. We have a two-decade construction programme ahead to complete the railway to Manchester. That’s thousands more jobs, and thousands more contracts going to British businesses, laying the foundations for the arrival of more new rail services into the next decade and beyond.
