The third installment of "Science, Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Future" considers the role of digital technology in creating green and low-emission mobility. Focusing on the energy and environmental aspects of urban transportation, panelists will discuss trends and dynamics of shared mobility and automation that are predicted to impact the future of transportation systems in California and Europe. With Susan Shaheen (UC Berkeley); Günter Emberger (TU Wien); and Alexander Keimer (UC Berkeley). Co-sponsored by the Office of Science & Technology Austria (OSTA), Washington D.C., the Austria Centers of North America, the Center for Law, Energy & the Environment, and the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Berkeley. Speakers: Günter Emberger is Head of the Research Center for Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering at TU Wien. His research centers on climate neutral, renewable and conventional energy supply systems. He has authored over 10 books and 80 journal articles in the areas of traffic modeling, human-friendly planning, and statistical evaluations. Alexander Keimer is a postdoctoral researcher at the UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies. He works on traffic flow modelling and routing on large scale networks based on real-time information provided by routing applications. Susan Shaheen is Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Co-Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at UC Berkeley. An internationally recognized leader in innovative mobility research, she focuses on areas including shared mobility; ecodriving for private vehicles and freight; smart parking management for transit and trucks, fuel cell, electric, and plug-in hybrid vehicles and infrastructure. Moderated by Johanna Pirker, Assistant Professor, Software Engineer, and Researcher at the Institute of Interactive Systems and Data Science at Graz University of Technology (TUG).
