COLD SWEAT, Thin Lizzy, drum (and GeoShred) cover by Dean Talbot #drumcover #drums #drummer #thinlizzy #geoshred I haven't had too much time to play recently, but the end of June was quite productive, and I managed to get down 3 tracks on the same day - the Icehouse song I've just uploaded, this, and another Lizzy song. Years before I got into the likes of Dream Theater, and even Rush, I was a major Thin Lizzy fan. I haven't done any of their stuff until now, but the recent passing of John Sykes (Dec 2024) prompted me to push these up the running order. I saw Lizzy 3 times before their split in 1983, including their farewell headline of the Reading Rock Festival on 28th August 1983. Phil Lynott died 3 years later. I still dip into their music occasionally, but it was the later stuff I really liked, including this and another track from the “Thunder and Lightning” record, my cover of which is to be released next. As a young drummer, I was also a major Brian Downey fan. More about him and his work in the next cover. John Sykes was, in my view, one of the best rock guitarists from the 80s and 90s. I've already recorded 2 Whitesnake tracks featuring him (Still of the Night, Crying In The Rain), and it was only a matter of time until I got on to his Lizzy work. His solo in this song, and the next one I have covered, are absolutely amazing. I've always loved the guitar piece at the end of this solo, and that section is actually a big part of the reason why I did this song. GeoShred gave me an opportunity to cover that part. You can skip to the GeoShred part at 02:00 GeoShred- If you haven’t previously heard about GeoShred, it is a musical application for iPad, and iPhone, in part developed by and for Jordan Rudess, and he has used it extensively on Dream Theater’s albums and tours. Anyone who has seen Dream Theater in the last 10 years or so, will have seen an iPad above his principle keyboard – that’s GeoShred.
