In the spring of 1932, a group of jobless veterans came to DC to try and get relief from the Great Depression. They were seeking the passage of a bill granting them immediate payment of a 'bonus' they received for their service in WWI. They became known as the Bonus Expeditionary Force, Bonus Marchers, or the Bonus Army and soon veterans from across the country were heading to Washington to join the protest. But President Hoover and the General MacArthur wanted them out of D.C., and on July 28, violence erupted in the Capital.
