Four days after the Federal breakthrough at Petersburg, three separate engagements near a tributary of the Appomattox River called Sailor's Creek (also known as Sayler's Creek), ensued as Robert E. Lee raced west towards Farmville for crucial supplies for his dwindling army. After having all possible escape routes cut off from the rest of Confederate forces, elements of what remained of Richard Ewell and Richard Anderson’s commands made a final stand near the now famous creek. After their flanks were crushed, both generals surrendered their forces to the Union army, depriving Lee of one-fourth of his men. Join Garry Adelman, Kris White and Joshua Lindamood for this tour of Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park.
