My weekly trip to the valley to get milk for the morning coffee is a high speed bicycling descent and then a slow climb back up to our hillside homestead in Vermont. The small family farm where I get my milk is one of the few that remain in a town where dairy farming was once the dominant way of life. I treasure the ones that remain. They will likely be gone within my lifetime, which makes me appreciate them every time I walk into the barn and draw fresh, organic milk from the bulk tank and put my money in the box.
