We're going to give it our best shot by building this epic stream to create running water to aerate the walleye eggs and keep them from silting in before they hatch. Stay tuned to videos in the future as we build pond structure that's conducive to multiple different species of fish. Building the fishing structure in our 1 acre pond that will be 30 feet deep. Our goal is to create a stream bed with running water flowing into the pond over a gravel rock base to encourage walleye spawning and develop a naturally reproducing walleye population in our pond in Eastern Iowa. We’ll have a backyard pond waterfall with a recirculating pump. Our fishing pond will have multiple shallow spawning beds with pea gravel. We’re building terraces and building steep dropoffs with rock ledges, cement culverts and rip rap to create rocky areas to create natural fish habitat. Along the dam, we’ve placed brush and large logs and root balls to give multiple fish species and various sizes to hold on and hide in the cover. We’ll be anchoring the logs down so they don’t float when the pond fills up with water.
